What does Costa Blanca have to offer?

Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca is a 200 km stretch of coastline in the province of Alicante. A renowned package holiday destination with such treasures as Benidorm, the area offers a staggering range of top quality climbing. The 5 key areas North of Alicante hold over 40 crags all within half an hour’s drive of each other. The most famous of the crags is Sella which attracts international climbers. However the real joy of this area is the ability to go to a different crag each day. Sea cliffs, DWS, multi-pitch or trad - the Costa has it all.

Season

A famous winter climbing destination, the season runs from October to April. The Spanish summer is just too hot for climbing although you could get in some Deep Water Soloing, or climb in the earliest hours of the day.

Amenities

The major towns in the area are Benidorm and Gandia. Both contain numerous supermarkets, banks, bars and restaurants. You will also find small towns located throughout the Costa Blanca to stop off at on the way to the crag.

The nearest large city is Alicante. It is a tourist destination during the summer but becomes more pleasant during the climbing season. There are hundreds of picturesque towns and villages dotted along the Costa Blanca and it is well worth dropping into a restaurant overlooking the Mediterranean for some Sangria and Tapas.

Getting there and away

The airport is located in Alicante. Because of the dispersed nature of the crags a car is essential and most climbers will rent one at the airport. Benidorm is 30 minutes from Alicante, Gandia is 1 hour round the coast.
